One 14-year-old youth was found dead just days after being falsely blamed of taking the cremated remains of a deceased infant during a break-in, a coroner's inquiry has learned.

Heartbreaking Discovery

The young boy's parents found his body in his bedroom at his Connah's Quay residence on 19 November 2021.

False Accusations Begin

The inquest heard how his parent received a communication on 8 November 2021 via social media, from a individual inquiring if her son was her child. The communication stated: "Tell him appreciation for burgling my apartment."

In a testimony presented to the court, Lisa Lloyd said the individual had been in the media, asserting her baby's remains had been taken in a burglary - a allegation which was false.

Law Enforcement Inquiry

An official inquiry from police later concluded the alleged break-in complainant had "provided false information" and "it now appears that said items was not taken in the beginning".

News coverage about the alleged stolen ashes generated social media responses, and although Kai was not named in the posts, his parent said individuals "knew it was him".

The "social media content were extremely upsetting", she stated.

Mental Wellbeing Impact

She explained that Kai had been diagnosed with mild ADHD, and as part of that disorder, other individuals' views really mattered to him.

"This must have affected him severely," she said, "especially when this was not true".

Kai was arrested at his residence, but no evidence was discovered. He was taken to a police station and later released pending further inquiry.

Police said they would be in contact, the inquest heard, but had not contacted the relatives by the moment of his death.

Isolation and Worry

His mother said Kai "became isolated" after the arrest and "repeatedly inquired me whether I had received anything from the police", because his condition meant sometimes "a minute could feel like days".

When she talked to him about the alleged incident, she said her son informed her he had gone into the house because the resident who resided there had said he could utilize the bathroom whenever he wanted, but denied removing anything.

Digital Bullying

In a combined testimony between her and her husband, the mother said her son was being bullied online after the accusations.

The proceedings learned that a 19-year-old urged the teenager to kill himself.

She had no worries on the evening before he passed away, describing how she had heard him "chuckling and teasing".

She described him as a "compassionate, affectionate" young man, and said her "relatives is totally shattered".

He had been "clearly concealing his concerns", she stated, noting that he could not bear to have anyone "have negative thoughts of him".

School Response

The hearing received testimony from educational personnel at the local secondary school.

On 8 November, she "overheard some students discussing that Kai had been arrested and that was the first I learned".

"He informed me... he'd done nothing wrong," she added.

After the discussion, the staff member said she called the family's parents' landline and left a voicemail saying she had communicated to the student about the accusations.

The proceedings heard his family said they did not got that message.

Official Finding

Senior investigator informed the hearing he would wait for documents regarding what improvements had been made to dealing with suspects with ADHD, before determining whether he should make a avoidance of future fatalities report.

Providing a narrative finding, he stated: "Approximately November 8th, 2021, unsupported accusations were made against Kai Benjamin Lloyd, a young child.
